The Abertax Group of Companies is investing over €1 million in the production of products related to the lithium battery industry.
In the course of a visit to the company Abertax Kemtronics Ltd at the Mosta Technopark, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat declared that these are products for today’s world and for the future, as they are essential, among other uses, for electric vehicles. Dr Muscat added that through such investment, the Maltese economy will be prepared for the future.
Abertax has a staff complement of over 150, with most of the staff focusing on research, development and innovation. The Prime Minister stated that the country needs to invest more in this sector, adding that the company is employing foreign nationals with skills which the Maltese workers lack, like those of technicians who assist engineers in their work.
Dr Muscat remarked that the Mosta Technopark had made a big transformation in six years. From just 200 employees in 2013, the number of employees now stands at between 700 and 800, and a number of companies like Abertax Kemtronics are based there.
Group Chairman Joseph Cilia stated that Abertax had been the vision of two Germans, adding that today most of the Executive Board are Maltese nationals. Mr Cilia further stated that the company had been instrumental in introducing the first electronic vehicles into Malta, as well as photovoltaic panels.
